FOUNDER
World Missionary Evangelism, Inc. was founded by the late Dr. John E. Douglas, Sr. John Douglas came from West Virginia, where he was one of the region’s most successful store owners. However, John Douglas felt that he should do more with his life by reaching people with the love of Christ. In prayer, he and his wife came to a vision of full-time Christian service. After selling all he had, John Douglas put his faith and life in the Lord’s hands and entered full-time ministry.
Subsequently, Dr. Douglas received an invitation to go to India and share the Gospel. He crossed the ocean to another nation for the first time in his life. In India, he realized he had found the Lord’s will for his life. At a Gospel meeting, a Hindu man challenged Dr. Douglas to practice what he preached and turned over the lives of seven suffering orphan children to the man of God. John Douglas answered this challenge. As he traveled preaching in India, Korea and the Philippines, thousands were saved. Dr. Douglas met native Christians who wanted to share the Gospel but had very little training and resources. John Douglas realized these passionate Christians knew their country, customs and people. He also realized these native Christians had an advantage in reaching their own people for Christ over American missionaries. God gave Dr. Douglas a vision of a mighty army of native missionaries going into their own lands to fulfill the Great Commission. Dr. Douglas decided that saving souls was not enough. He saw that there was sickness, hunger, poverty and hopelessness to overcome, and he believed the Lord would heal, feed, and give these precious people a start at a better life. John Douglas pledged to use his life to meet the spiritual and physical needs of these people. God has honored Dr. Douglas’ life and his commitment to serve by turning what started as a pledge to help seven orphan children from India into a world-wide outreach to suffering children and people around the world through World Missionary Evangelism.
