Clean Water is the Gift of Life!!

Water is essential for survival above all other resources on earth. Yet, over one billion men,
women and children do not have safe water to drink. Innocent children and desperate families
are living in overcrowded urban ghettos, refugee camps and rural villages of developing
countries. Here, less than 50% of the population has access to safe drinking water, and only
25% have access to sanitary systems.

These precious people do not have enough water to grow and harvest food, to keep livestock
alive or to protect their families from hunger and disease. They simply do not have enough
water to live.

When water is unsafe to drink, an entire community suffers.

Without a sufficient supply of clean water, crops and livestock wither and die. People go
hungry and become weak. Weakness allows disease to run its course, and hunger takes its
toll. Daily, almost 40,000 men, women and children die from diseases related to ingesting
polluted water. A full 80% of fatal childhood diseases worldwide are caused not by shortages
of food and medicine -- but by drinking contaminated water. In many rural communities, women
and children must locate and transport water, leaving little time for pursuing developmental
opportunities or education.

The sad irony is many times there is life-saving water underground only a short distance away,
but the people lack the tools and knowledge to reach it.

Nothing transforms a community like providing a clean water source for the first time.

Clean water is the lifeblood of these communities. With it, children become eager to learn while
young men and women are able to produce more income and food. It has the power to stop
the cycle of poverty, and the entire community becomes healthier.

When you think of fighting hunger, you may think only of emergency relief efforts that bring
food. When you think of healing disease, you may think only of doctors, nurses and medicine.
The reality is you can stop hunger, heal disease and save thousands of precious lives with the
simple gift of water.
