Lepers & Medical Outreach
“And as ye go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’
Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils:
freely ye have received, freely give.”
WME has worked with individuals suffering with leprosy for more than four decades.
In developed nations, we often think of leprosy as an ancient illness mentioned in the Bible, not a debilitating disease affecting people RIGHT NOW. But that is not the case!
World Missionary Evangelism has provided medicine, food, clothing and compassion to those others have reviled, shunned and left to waste away. Our work with lepers has been concentrated in India. We have a Medical Center for Lepers in Bhubaneswar, which serves hundreds of families coming from 5 leper colonies. This clinic provides vital services for these
afflicted people. Patients have wounds cleaned and bandaged, and they are given vitamins and medicines to treat their disease.
Our work with lepers goes beyond medical treatment. We also treat their souls.
Who is in a better position to show compassion to those suffering than Christians? We understand
how nothing can separate us from the love of Christ and the importance of ministering to the
eternal souls of men, women and children.
WME Native Missionaries regularly visit the leper colonies, meeting the spiritual needs of people who are called “untouchables.” These lepers are often overwhelmed that someone is able to look past their scarred features to see the person beneath. Through this mission of mercy, many have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior.
In addition, WME’s native workers identify healthy children living in the leper colonies and relocate them to a WME Children’s Home. This allows these children to avoid contracting leprosy, but allows them to stay in touch with their families.
Adequate medical care is critical for many impoverished children and families.
For those locked in a daily struggle for food and shelter, finding a nearby medical clinic or affordable healthcare for their families seems an impossible challenge.
World Missionary Evangelism is involved in projects to help build medical clinics and provide medical services in impoverished communities. Your gifts help WME to provide basic, life-saving medical care to children and families in great need.
